Oles Run Past Pipers

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team embarked on their first-of-three road bouts to close the regular season with a Tuesday-afternoon twinbill at St. Olaf (DH), where they dropped a pair of games by 5-2 and 11-3 scores.

The Pipers fall to 16-14, 7-10 MIAC, while the Oles improve to 18-16, 13-3 MIAC.

St. Olaf 5, Hamline 2

St. Olaf jumped to a 5-0 lead behind a pair of runs in the first and third innings, following by one run in the fourth. The Pipers' lone two runs occurred in the seventh inning, where Lydia Lecher and Raelyn Costley led things off with a single and walk, respectively. They each advanced a base on Jenna Rubbelke's sacrifice bunt. Lecher scored on a wild pitch to narrow the score to 5-1, before Amber Peterson's groundout sent home Costley to make things 5-2.

Peterson, Kira Krueger, Theresa Klinnert, and Lecher each notched a hit for the Pipers. Hamline starting pitcher Dana Rosbacka allowed nine hits and five runs (two earned), before Klinnert surrendered no hits over the final two innings in relief.

St. Olaf 11, Hamline 3

Hamline set the tone with a 3-0 lead, which began with a pair of third-inning runs. Lydia Lecher led off the frame with a double, moved to third on Jenna Rubbelke's single, and scored on Amber Peterson's infield single to make the score 1-0. Jenna Rubbelke followed with a run on Megan Rubbelke's sacrifice fly to left field to extend the margin to 2-0.

The fourth inning saw Gabby Cook lead off with a single, and later score on a base-loaded fielder's choice courtesy of Costley to put things at 3-0.

That's all the offense Hamline mustered as St. Olaf closed the game with 11 unanswered runs that included two in the fourth, and nine in the fifth to secure an 11-3 victory.

Lydia Lecher went 2-for-2 with a double, while Jenna Rubbelke, Amber Peterson, Gabby Cook each had one hit for the Pipers.

Kira Krueger, who retired all nine batters faced throughout the opening three innings, allowed eight hits and seven runs over four innings of pitching work for Hamline. Dana Rosbacka came in relief for the final inning.

The Pipers will travel to Concordia (Minn.) (DH) on Saturday, April 30 for a 1 p.m. game time.
