Late-Game Run Pushes Foresters Past Pipers

LAKE FOREST, ILL.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team traveled to first-year program Lake Forest for a battle of MWLC undefeated teams on Friday evening. Molly Garin's sixth goal of the game with 12:43 left in the fourth quarter gave Hamline a 9-8 lead, which ignited a Foresters team that notched six unanswered goals en route to a 14-9 victory.

Lake Forest, who clinched the 2022 MWLC Regular Season Championship in their first season as a varsity program, move to 10-3, 5-0 MWLC, while Hamline falls to 4-7, 3-1 MWLC.

The game was tied on a whopping seven occasions, which included a 6-6 score at halftime. The third quarter ended with an 8-8 tie, before the Pipers scored for the final time with 12:43 left in the final frame courtesy of Molly Garin on the free position to make things 9-8.

The Foresters responded with six unanswered goals within seven minutes to secure a 14-9 victory.

Molly Garin converted all six of her shots on goal en route to a game-high six goals. Taryn Leonard came through with a pair of goals and one assist, while Maria Lewis netted one goal and one assist. SJ Welch dished a team-best two assists.

Lake Forest out shot Hamline 30-22. The Pipers won the draw control battle 15-12, behind Garin's game-high six.

Justine Case notched eight saves between the pipes for Hamline, while Calliope Saban stopped six shots on the other end for Lake Forest.

Jenna Doctor and Ali Graham each notched four goals for the Forester offense.

The Pipers will close their 2022 regular season at Wartburg tomorrow, Saturday, April 30 at 3 p.m.
