WAVERLY, IOWA—The 2022 regular season finale pitted the Hamline University women's lacrosse team at Wartburg for a Saturday-afternoon bout, where they prevailed with a 13-8 victory.
Hamline will be the No. 2 seed in the 2022 MWLC Tournament, and will host No. 3 seed Northwestern (Minn.) in the semifinal at Klas Field on Wednesday, May 4 at a time yet to be determined. No. 1 Lake Forest will host No. 4 Wartburg in the other MWLC Semifinal Game.
The Pipers conclude the regular season with a 5-7, 4-1 MWLC record, while Wartburg wraps up their campaign with a 4-11, 2-3 MWLC mark.
Hamline 13, Wartburg 8
Molly Garin opened the contest with a pair of goals that gave Hamline a 2-0 lead with 10:01 left in the first frame. The Knights out shot the Pipers 5-1 from that point through the end of the opening frame, which resulted in a trio of goals that gave them a 3-2 lead after 15:00.
Hamline wouldn't trail again in the contest, as they strung together 4-0 runs in the second and third quarters that gave them enough cushion in a 13-8 victory.
Molly Garin led the Pipers with four goals and eight draw controls. Taryn Leonard notched four points that included three goals and one assist, along with five draw controls. Maitland Luksan added three goals and a team-leading three caused turnovers. Maria Lewis paced the Pipers with five ground balls, and contributed two goals.
Hamline outshot Wartburg 24-21. Pipers goalie Justine Case made five saves, while her counterpart Alyson Hasner stopped four shots for the Knights.
