DECORAH, IOWA.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team squared-off against CCIW foe Carroll (Wis.) on day one of the Luther Tournament in Decorah, Iowa on Friday. The Pipers' first five-set match of the season didn't go their way in a 3-2 (22-25, 26-24, 25-13, 18-25, 16-14) loss to the Pioneers.
Hamline falls to 1-12, while Carroll (Wis.) improves to 6-8.

The Pipers battled back from an 8-3 deficit in set five, as Julianna Boyum engineered a 7-0 run with three service aces that gave her team a 10-8 cushion. Rebekah Andreae got Carroll (Wis.) out of trouble, as her two kills highlighted a 4-0 run that helped them regain a 13-11 lead. The Pioneers wouldn't trail from that point forward, but the set would go into extra points. Katie Jensen's kill, followed by a Hamline error sealed a 16-14 set win, and 3-2 match victory for Carroll.
Boyum registered six service aces in the match, two shy of tying a single-game school record. Jenna Rubbelke tallied a season-best 28 digs for the Pipers. Kennedy Tutak led Hamline with 10 kills, followed by nine apiece from Lindsay Eckelman and Faith Johnson. Kaitlyn Kotek set them up with 19 assists for the Pipers offense.
Katie Jensen led Carroll with a game-high 16 kills.
Hamline will return to action on day two of the Luther Tournament tomorrow, Saturday, September 24 against Lawrence at 10 a.m., and Dubuque at 2 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
