Pipers Split on Day Two of Luther Tournament

DECORAH, IOWA.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team embarked on day two of the Luther Tournament in Decorah, Iowa on Saturday, where they faced Lawrence and Dubuque in neutral-site matches. The Pipers prevailed with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-22) victory over Lawrence, and dropped a 3-1 (25-8, 25-20, 18-25, 25-20) decision to Dubuque. Jenna Rubbelke was named to the All-Luther Tournament Team for her performance over the three-game stretch.

The Saturday split gives Hamline a 2-13 record. Lawrence fell to 1-15, and Dubuque improved to 7-7.

Hamline 3, Lawrence 0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-22)

The Pipers notched a season-high .329 hitting percentage, and held the opposition to a season-low .012 figure. Good things came in eights for the Pipers in the match; as eight different player notched a kill, led by eight apiece from Julianna Boyum and Britta Lund. Jenna Rubbelke led the defense with 11 digs, followed by eight from Boyum.

Kaitlyn Kotek was all over the scoresheet for Hamline with a team-leading three service aces and 15 assists.

Dubuque 3, Hamline 1 (25-8, 25-20, 18-25, 25-20)

Hamline couldn't duplicate their hitting from the opening match as they finished with a .077 mark. Dubuque's stellar opening set consisted of a .536 hitting percentage and 16 kills en route to a 25-8 decision, which proved to be enough momentum in a 3-1 victory.

Jenna Rubbelke led the way with four service aces and 15 digs for the Pipers, while Katrina St. Clair and Britta Lund each tallied a team-best seven kills. Katlyn Kotek posted seven assists.

Emma Powell led Dubuque with 17 kills, while her teammate Katie Wright came through with 21 digs.

The Pipers will host UW-River Falls at Hutton Arena on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 p.m.
