Pipers Drop Home Opener Against Blue Devils

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team's 2022 home opener pitted them against WIAC foe UW-Stout on Wednesday afternoon. The Pipers are still in pursuit of their first victory of their young season as they dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) decision against the Blue Devils.

Hamline falls to 0-4, while UW-Stout's first victory of the season gives them a 1-4 record.

The Blue Devils peppered 18 kills as a team en route to a .406 hitting percentage in set one, led by Sidney Hoverman's five kills that powered them to a 25-17 victory. Hoverman added five more kills in set two, which engineered a squad that hit .419 in a 25-14 set-two victory. The Blue Devils led from start-to-finish in set three, where they cruised to a 25-16 victory.

Hoverman tallied a game-high 15 kills for UW-Stout. Julianna Boyum led Hamline with seven kills, while Jenna Rubbelke led the way defensively with 13 digs. Katrina St. Clair tallied 21 assists, while Lindsay Eckelman and Kennedy Tutak each chipped in three blocks for Hamline.

The Pipers will host a triangular on Friday, September 9, when they host Martin Luther at 3 p.m., and Central (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
