SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team made the trek down Snelling Ave for a Wednesday-night showdown at Macalester. A huge 17-4 Piper run in the second quarter combined with stellar defense gave them the cushion needed in a 79-49 thrashing of the Scots.
Hamline improves to 10-2, 7-2 MIAC, while Macalester falls to 4-8, 3-6 MIAC.

Outside of a 1-0 deficit, the Pipers led the entire contest. The scoring margin was in the single digits throughout the entire first quarter, as Hamline held a 14-9 lead after 10:00. That margin stretched to double-digits for good behind a 17-4 Piper run that was capped by Michaela Stamer's layup with 4:30 left in the second quarter that made things 31-13. It proved too much for Macalester to overcome as Hamline cruised to a 79-49 win.
A whopping 13 players found the score column for Hamline led by Camille Cummings' 12 points, followed by 11 from Iyanna Wieland and 10 from Lydia Lecher. All 15 Hamline players pulled down at least one rebound, led by Alyssa Williamson's eight.
The Pipers held Macalester to a dismal 18-of-62 (.290) field goal percentage, and a 4-of-20 (.200) figure from downtown.
Peyton Starks led the Scots with a game-high 18 points.
The Pipers will host Concordia (Minn.) on Saturday, January 14 at 3 p.m.
