Late Power-Play Goal Lifts Pointers Over Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team returned to action for the first time in exactly a month on Friday evening, when they hosted UW-Stevens Point at Tria Rink. The Pipers dominated in shots 29-9 over the opening two periods before the Pointers flipped the script with a 12-4 advantage in the third. It culminated in Lauren Wincentsen's power-play goal at 16:08 of the final frame that propelled the Pointers to a 1-0 victory.

Hamline falls to 6-6, while UW-Stevens Point improves to 7-5-1.

Pointers goalie Olivia Schultz played the game of her life as she stopped all 29 shots faced, and shut down three Piper power play opportunities over the first two periods. UW-Stevens Point found their stroke over the final 20:00 with a 12-4 advantage in shots. They capitalized on a Hamline high-sticking penalty, as Lauren Wincentsen converted a power-play goal at 16:08, which made the score 1-0. Natalie Ahern was credited an assist on the play.

Hamline out shot UW-Stevens Point 33-21.

Schultz finished the game with 33 saves for the Pointers, while Pipers netminder Kendra Nordick stopped 20 shots.

The Pipers will host UW-Superior at Tria Rink on Tuesday, January 10 at 7 p.m.
