NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team picked up their first MIAC victory of the season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 26-24) decision over Carleton on Saturday night.
The Pipers improve to 5-14, 1-7 MIAC, while the Knights drop to 6-13, 3-5 MIAC.
Hamline 3, Carleton 0 (25-23, 25-17, 26-24)
Each team registered 12 kills and five attack errors in an opening set that resulted in a whopping 10 lead changes. The Pipers dug themselves out of a 23-22 deficit with a 3-0 run at the tail end, as Lauren Wilborn's kill and Kaitlyn Kotek's service ace gave Hamline the lead for good in a 25-23 victory.
Faith Johnson registered five kills and two service aces for Hamline in set two, where they never trailed in a 25-17 win. Each team registered 13 kills in set two, but it was the Pipers who committed just three combined errors while Carleton had 11.Â
Seven tied scores and three lead changes occurred in the third frame, where both team notched 13 kills. Back-to-back kills from Wilborn and Jenna Rubbelke broke a 24-24 tie and iced a 26-24 win and 3-0 match sweep.
Johnson paced Hamline with 11 kills, three service aces, and four assisted blocks; while Kaitlyn Kotek registered 34 assists and three aces. The dynamic duo engineered an offense that hit .257 for the match. The Pipers accumulated 10 total blocks in the match, led by Lindsay Eckelman's three solo blocks. Jenna Rubbelke had 21 digs and two aces.
The Pipers will host UW-Superior at Hutton Arena on Tuesday, October 24 at 7 p.m.
