SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team opened their 2023-24 season with a 5-0 thrashing of St. Norbert in a non-conference bout at TRIA Rink on Friday night.
The Pipers improve to 1-0, while the Green Knights fall to 0-1.

Sydney Lemke carried the Pipers on her shoulders with a four-point outing, which all occurred in the second period. After a scoreless first period, Lemke would score the game's first two goals at 3:01, and 11:44 of the second period to give Hamline a 2-0 cushion. Lemke helped set up Annika Lindgren's tally at 13:28, as well as sophomore Ashley Grabau's first career goal at 16:13 of the second frame to widen the margin to 4-0.
Haley Eder-Zdechlik put the nail in the coffin with a goal in the game's final seconds to make things 5-0.
The Pipers more than doubled the Green Knights in shots on goal by a 29-14 margin.
Elizabeth Valley dished three assists for the Pipers, while Eder-Zdechlik and Grabau each had a goal and an assist.
Olivia Rinzel had 14 saves in a complete-game shutout in net for Hamline, while her counterpart Brynn Waisman stopped 24 shots for St. Norbert.
The Pipers will look to sweep the Green Knights at TRIA Rink tomorrow, Saturday, October 28 at 2 p.m.
