SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team picked up their third-straight win with a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24) decision over Macalester at Hutton Arena on Friday night.
Junior Jenna Rubbelke's five service aces in the match puts her career total at 152, two shy of Tara Roseau's (1995-98) school record of 154. Rubbelke owns single-season school records with 48 digs in a five-set match, 43 digs in a four-set match. Her 30 digs in a three-set match is tied for the school record.
The Pipers improve to 7-14, 2-7 MIAC and surpass their win total from last season, while the Scots fall to 8-15, 2-7 MIAC.
Hamline 3, Macalester 1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24)
This marked Hamline's 10th four-set match of the season.
The opening set resulted in four leads changes, which included a 3-0 Hamline run at the tail end that dug them out of a 24-23 deficit and secured them a 26-24 victory. Faith Johnson led Hamline in set one with four kills and two assisted blocks.
The Pipers barely mustered above .000 hitting in the second set, where Macalester hit .306 on 15 kills and just five combined errors en route to a 25-20 victory.
The third set was deja vu from the opening frame as Hamline dug themselves out of a deficit with another 3-0 run at the tail end. Lindsay Eckelman's kill tied the match 23-23, before a pair of Scots attack errors resulted in the set's sixth lead change, and locked a 25-23 Pipers victory that gave them a 2-1 match lead.
The fourth frame saw Hamline prevail at the very end. Elizabeth Lopata and Eckelman engineered a 6-1 Pipers run with a pair of kills each, which got their team out of a 23-21 deficit and secured them a 26-24 victory, and 3-1 match win.
Macalester had the upper hand in hitting percentage .191 - .162. Eckelman had 11 kills and five blocks for the Pipers, while Lopata also had 11 kills. Mandy Dierks prevailed with six service aces. Rubbelke had five aces and 36 digs. Kaitlyn Kotek ran the Hamline offense with 39 assists.
Adisa Preston had a game-high 19 kills for the Scots.
The Pipers will travel to Saint Mary's (Minn.) tomorrow, Saturday, October 28 for a 7 p.m. match.
