WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team won their fourth-straight match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-23) road sweep at Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Pipers improve to 8-14, 3-7 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 11-18, 3-7 MIAC.
Hamline 3, Saint Mary's (Minn.) 0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-23)
The Pipers never trailed over the opening two sets, where they registered convincing 25-17 and 25-16 victories. The third frame resulted in five lead changes and 11 tied scores. Elizabeth Lopata's kill that knotted the score at 19-19 proved to be the set's turning point, as it kick started a 4-0 run that put Hamline in the lead for good at 22-19. The Cardinals cut their deficit to one point on two more occasions at 23-22 and 24-23, but the Pipers hung on to a 25-23 victory and 3-0 match sweep.
Jenna Rubbelke paced the Pipers with 23 digs, and contributed five assists.
Lopata tied for a game-high 13 kills, three blocks, and had just one attack error for a .500 hitting percentage. She engineered a Hamline offense that hit .311, a season high among MIAC contests. Kaitlyn Kotek notched 33 assists for the Pipers.
Kennedy Tutak had an impressive night with 10 kills, a .421 hitting clip, and two assisted blocks.
Ciarra McNally led Saint Mary's with 13 kills.
The Pipers will make the short trip to UW-River Falls on Wednesday, November 1 for a 7 p.m. match.
