Pipers Respond With 2-1 OT Road Victory Over Cardinals

WINONA, MINN.—A pair of Sydney Lemke goals, including her game-winner at 1:38 of overtime propelled the Hamline University women's hockey team to a 2-1 OT road victory over Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Pipers improve to 3-2-0, 1-1-0 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 4-2-0, 1-1-0 MIAC.

Each team drew just one penalty, and scored one goal in an evenly contested regulation that resulted in a slight 24-22 shots advantage for Hamline. All of that occurred in the second period, when Allie Urlaub gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead at 9:57 of the frame. The Pipers didn't respond with a shot on goal until 15:06 of the second period, but it found the back of the net courtesy of Sydney Lemke to make the score 1-1.

Each team notched just one shot on goal in the 3-on-3 overtime session, when Lemke registered her second goal of the game at 1:38 to propel Hamline to a 2-1 victory.

Annika Lindgren, Nikki Olund, and Abigail Chamernick each tallied an assist for the Pipers.

Hamline goaltender Kendra Nordick notched 21 saves in her first start of the season, while her counterpart Celeste Rimstad stopped 22 shots between the pipes for the Cardinals.

The Pipers will open a home-and-home MIAC series at St. Olaf on Friday, November 17 at 6 p.m.
