Pipers Take Down Oles in High Scoring Affair

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team prevailed in a high-scoring affair by a 7-4 road decision over St. Olaf on Friday night. The 10 goals scored between both teams was the most in a game since February 3, 2018, when 18 goals were netted in the Pipers' 13-5 victory over Concordia (Minn.).

Hamline improves to 4-2-0, 2-1-0 MIAC, while St. Olaf falls to 4-3-0, 0-3-0 MIAC.

Hamline 7, St. Olaf 4

The Pipers never trailed in the contest, but the Oles managed to tie the game on a pair of occasions courtesy of Julia Larson at 12:18 of the first period that made it 2-2, and Rachel Weiland at 13:13 of the second frame that knotted things at 3-3.

St. Olaf was called for a tripping penalty less than a minute later at 14:06 of the second period. Hamline capitalized on that infraction at 14:53, when Nikki Olund put her team in the driver's seat for good at 4-3 on the power play.

Hamline, who outshot St. Olaf 16-10 from that point forward, grew their lead to 6-3 within the opening three minutes of the third period behind tallies from Morgan Wohlers and Olund. It proved to be enough cushion to secure a 7-4 victory.

Nikki Olund paced Hamline with two goals while Sydney Lemke, Wohlers, Ashley Grabau, Ally Steffensmeier, and Emme Nelson each had one goal and one assist.

The Pipers went 2-for-3 on the power play, and out shot the Oles 31-19.

Kendra Nordick notched 15 saves in net for Hamline. St. Olaf goaltenders Hannah Fritz and Carley Tuman combined for 24 saves.

The Pipers will look to sweep the Oles at TRIA Rink tomorrow, Saturday, November 18 at 2 p.m.
