SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team's 2023-24 home opener pitted them against Martin Luther at Hutton Arena on Tuesday night. The Pipers got scoring from 10 different individuals in their 78-47 victory over the Knights, led by Sam Bradley's career-high 17 points off a 5-of-7 figure from the three-point line.
Hamline came through with 18 steals, the most in a game since January 21, 2012, when they had 19 in a 91-56 win against Macalester.
The Pipers improves to 1-1, while the Knights drop to 0-3.
Hamline 78, Martin Luther 47
Martin Luther had Hamline on the ropes as they opened the game with a 15-5 lead with 11:19 left in the first half, thanks to Ethan Kjenstad's eight points in the run. Back-to-back Sam Bradley three-point baskets kick-started a 34-4 Pipers run that gave them a 39-19 halftime lead, which proved to be enough cushion in a 78-47 victory.
Bradley's career night consisted of a 6-of-8 figure from the field. Dominic Dosmann followed with a career-high 10 points and five rebounds for the Pipers, who finished the game with a .373 (25-of-67) mark from the field. The duo engineered a Hamline bench that registered 37 points.
Austin Holt led the way with eight rebounds and four assists along with nine points. Daniel McCarrell paced the Pipers with four steals while Brendan Ebel tallied nine points, two steals, and two blocks. Raoul Vaidya had a game-high six assists for Hamline, who nailed 18-of-19 free throws as a team.
The Pipers will travel to Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Tuesday, November 21 at 7 p.m.
