Auggies Nip Pipers in Overtime

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team made the short trip over the Mississippi River to Ed Saugestad Rink to face second-place Augsburg on Friday night. Maddie Nickell came through with an impressive 39 saves for the Pipers, but it wasn't enough as Augsburg's Jenna Gerold's goal at 00:54 into overtime propelled her team to a 3-2 (OT) victory.

Hamline falls to 7-14-1, 6-8-1 MIAC, while Augsburg improves to 14-6-2, 11-3-1 MIAC.

Augsburg 3, Hamline 2 (OT)

The Pipers' lone power-play opportunity of the game resulted in 1-0 lead courtesy of Morgan Wohlers at 14:21 of the first period.

The second period's opening face-off belonged to Hamline, but the Auggies capitalized on a turnover as Kennedy Stein tied the game at 1-1 00:09 into the frame. Augsburg's final goal of regulation occurred at 9:51 of the second, when Elizabeth Fagerlind's power-play tally gave her team a 2-1 lead.

Emme Nelson's face-off win at 11:16 of the second period set things up, as Hamline converted on their first ensuing shot thanks to Elizabeth Valley at 11:49, which made the score 2-2. Cheyenne Abear, as well as Nelson, were credited assists on the play.

Both teams combined for 13 shots on goal in a scoreless third period. It was Augsburg who saved their best for last as Gerold converted the overtime session's lone shot on goal 00:54 in, which propelled her team to a 3-2 (OT) win.

Emme Nelson finished the game with two assists, while Haley Eder-Zdechlik and Abear each contributed one.

Augsburg out shot Hamline 42-17. Chloe Stockinger stopped 15 shots in net for the Auggies.

Hamline will host Augsburg at Tria Rink tomorrow, Saturday, February 11 at 2 p.m.
