Pipers Pull out Close Win on Senior Day

SAINT PAUL, MINN- The Hamline University women's basketball team was in action to celebrate senior day Saturday afternoon, welcoming the Augsburg Auggies to Hutton Arena. The Pipers found a way to come out on top battling back after trailing most of the game to squeak out the 71-70 victory.

The Pipers will move up to 17-6 (14-6 MIAC) on the year, while the Auggies will drop to 11-12 (8-12 MIAC).

The win is also the 53rd overall for the incredible class of 2023 including Alyssa Williamson, Chan'el Anderson-Manning, Tess Hauer, and Iyanna Wieland.

The Pipers found themselves in a hole early as Augsburg started hot hitting four three's early in the game to run out to a 12-3 lead. The Pipers started to dig out getting lead down to 19-13 at the end of the first and down to three late in the half before a late Auggie bucket gave them a 28-23 lead at the break. And at the end of a back and forth third quarter the Pipers found the deficit down to just two before Augsburg hit a big three and three more free throws to close the period up 50-42. That was cut down quickly by threes from Larisa O'Neil and Josie Wiebusch, and the Pipers took their first lead not much later off of a steal and a bucket from Chan'el Anderson-Manning going up 52-51. The teams went back and forth from there when with 44 seconds left Alyssa Williamson hit a huge three to put the Pipers up 67-65 which is a lead they wouldn't give up as they finished with the 71-70 win. The Pipers' 29 fourth-quarter points was the most in a frame this season.

The Pipers were led by Lydia Lecher's 16 points, Chan'el Anderson-Manning, and Michaela Stamer also chipped in 10 points each.

The Auggies got 23 points from Jaley Coplin, as well as 13 from Grace Eastman, and 10 from Kalena Meyers.

The Pipers will be back in action Wednesday, February 15 at 7 p.m. when they host Gustavus.
