BLAINE, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team made the short trek to the National Sports Center to take on Bethel for a Friday-night bout. The Pipers kept their playoff hopes alive as Haley Eder-Zdechlik's game-winner at 3:32 of overtime propelled her team to a 2-1 (OT) victory.
Hamline, who snapped a nine-game winless drought, improves to 8-15-1, 7-9-1 MIAC while Bethel falls to 8-15-1, 5-12-0 MIAC.
Hamline 2, Bethel 1 (OT)
The final score indicated the up-and-down play as Hamline finished with a slight 30-27 edge in shots. Hannah Dorsey converted the Pipers' first shot on goal of the game 2:47 into the contest, which resulted in her second goal of the season that made the score 1-0. The Royals returned the favor midway through the contest at 13:38 of the second period courtesy of Lindsey Muntifering on the power play, which knotted things at 1-1.
A scoreless third period saw the Pipers take an 8-4 lead in shots. Both teams were even in that department 3-3 in overtime, which culminated in Eder-Zdechlik's seventh goal of the season at 3:32 of the frame that lifted Hamline to a 2-1Â victory. Cheyenne Abear and Ally Steffensmeier were credited assists on the play.
Maddie Nickell made 26 saves in net for Hamline, while her counterpart Anna Hanson stopped 28 shots for Bethel.
The Pipers will close the regular season tomorrow, February 18, when they host Bethel at Tria Rink for senior day at 2 p.m.
