SAINT PAUL, MINN- The Hamline University women's basketball team opened up postseason play when they hosted the St. Olaf Oles in the MIAC quarterfinals. The Pipers punched their ticket to the MIAC semifinals for the second-straight season hitting a barage of three-pointers pulling away for a 76-64 win.
The Pipers will improve to 18-8 (14-8 MIAC), while the Ole's will finish the season 14-12 (11-11 MIAC).
Hamline 76 St. Olaf 64
The Pipers came out of the gates shooting hot and didn't slow down, they hit five shots from behind the arc in the opening period to give them a 19-11 advantage. Hamline continued to grow the lead in the second scoring on the first possession and holding a double digit lead the rest of the half getting as big as 35-19 before closing the half with a 40-28 lead. The Pipers got the lead back to 16 again when a
Michaela Stamer three made it 50 34. The Ole's fought their way back into the game from their and got the lead all the way down to 57-52. The Pipers then got the lead right back to 10 after a
Chan'el Anderson-Manning layup with a foul and a tough step back from
Lydia Lecher to end the quarter up 62-52. That run continued into the fourth getting to 13-0 as the Pipers led 70-52 before St. Olaf got their first points of the quarter with 6:22 to go in the game. The Ole's gave one last push to get the score to 72-64 with two minutes to go. Stamer put away any comeback hopes with the teams' 13th three-pointer of the game to put the lead at 76-64 where it stood.
The Pipers were led by 15 points from
Lydia Lecher, 13 points from
Chan'el Anderson-Manning, and 11 from
Michaela Stamer.
St. Olaf got 15 points from Paige Yagodinski, as well as 13 points from Rachael Kelly, and 11 from Sophie Olmen.
The Pipers move on to the MIAC semifinals where they will travel to Moorhead to take on Concordia (Minn.) Friday, February 24 at 7 p.m.
