Pipers Defeat Blugolds, Fall to Beavers on Day Two of Bethany Lutheran Tournament

MANKATO, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team split a pair of games in Mankato on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over defending WIAC Tournament Champion UW-Eau Claire, and a 2-1 loss to Buena Vista.

The Pipers move to 2-2 with the split.

Hamline 4, UW-Eau Claire 3

Hamline's offense strung together four, two-out hits in the opening frame. It resulted in a pair of runs behind RBI-singles from Gabby Tuhy and Raelyn Costley, who each drove in Gabby Cook and Abbey Herbert to give the Pipers a 2-0 lead.

The Blugolds knotted the game at 2-2 behind runs in the first and third innings. Back-to-back UW-Eau Claire errors resulted in a 3-2 Hamline lead in the fourth inning.

The Blugolds tied it up again at 3-3 in the fifth inning, before Abbey Herbert's seventh-inning solo home run gave the Pipers a 4-3 lead.

Herbert and Costley each notched two hits for Hamline.

Dana Rosbacka allowed six hits, three runs; and struck out six in the complete-game pitching win.

Buena Vista 2, Hamline 1

The Beavers took a 1-0 first-inning lead. Both teams traded a run in the fifth inning, where the Pipers set the tone when Jenna Rubbelke doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored off Gabby Cook's sacrifice fly to make things 1-1. Buena Vista responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth, where they took a 2-1 lead.

Jenna Rubbelke, Josephine Cariveau, and Raelyn Costley each had two hits at the plate for Hamline.

Pipers starting pitcher Montana Miller allowed six hits over six innings of work.

The Pipers will return to action on Monday, March 13 in Kissimmee, Florida against North Park at 11:30 a.m. (ET), and Amherst at 2 p.m. (ET).
