Pipers Complete First MIAC Sweep in Six Years With 4-1 Victory at Gustavus

ST. PETER, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team completed their first MIAC sweep since 2016-17 with a 4-1 victory at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday night.

The Pipers improve to 11-9-1, 4-8-0 MIAC, while the Gusties fall to 3-16-2, 1-10-1 MIAC.

Hamline 4, Gustavus 1

After a scoreless first period, the Pipers found their footing with a 13-3 shots advantage in the second frame. It resulted in a trio of goals, which started with leading scorer Sam Dabrowski's 10th of the season that gave Hamline a 1-0 lead at 1:30 of the frame. The Pipers followed that up with back-to-back power play tallies courtesy of Bailey Sommers at 6:49, and Joe Collins at 12:17 that pushed the margin to 3-0.

Gustavus used that as ignition as they responded with a 10-7 shots edge in the third, which produced Stanislav Danaev's power-play goal at 9:11 that narrowed the margin to 3-1. That was all Gustavus could muster as Hamline held on for a 4-1 victory capped by Bailey Sommers' second goal of the game, an empty-netter in the final seconds.

Sommers finished with two goals and one assist, while Joe Collins and Sam Dabrowski each contributed a goal and an assist for a Pipers team that held a 25-22 shots advantage. Hamline converted a 2-for-4 mark on the power play.

Kevin Lake made 21 saves in net for Hamline, while Jackson Hjelle also stopped 21 shots for Gustavus.

The Pipers will host Augsburg at Tria Rink on Friday, February 10 at 7 p.m.
