DULUTH, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team made the two-hour trek up I-35 for a Wednesday-night battle at St. Scholastica. The Pipers, who were without starting forward Austin Holt to injury, were able to nail 11 three-pointers and out rebound the Saints 29-27 in the contest. It wasn't enough as St. Scholastica's Mohamed Washington highlighted a 6-0 run with a steal followed by a thunderous fast-break dunk that gave them a 61-60 lead with 3:21 left in the game. They wouldn't relinquish that advantage en route to a 63-60 victory over Hamline.
The Pipers fall to 12-10, 8-9 MIAC, while the Saints improve to 7-15, 6-11 MIAC.

Both squads were within striking distance of another as seven lead changes and nine tied scores occurred throughout the contest. It was the Pipers who prevailed in the first half with an 11-of-26 (.423) field goal percentage that included 13 points from Sam Hoffman, which resulted in a 29-27 lead at intermission.
St. Scholastica found their footing in the second half, where they notched a 14-of-25 (.560) shooting mark against Hamline's 12-of-27 (.444) figure. It was the Pipers who led for a majority of the final 12:00 of the contest, which included Mick Wherley's layup that gave them 60-57 cushion with 4:15 left. It proved to be Hamline's final points, as St. Scholastica ended things with a 6-0 run that was highlighted by Washington's big steal and dunk that gave them the lead for good at 61-60 with 3:21 remaining. Nick Carlson's free throws with 1:14 left made things final at 63-60.
Bradley Cimperman and Sam Hoffman each scored 18 points, and combined for seven three-pointers for Hamline. Cimperman added two steals and four assists. Mick Wherley notched a double double 12 points and 10 boards.
Nick Carlson led St. Scholastica with 17 points.
The Pipers will host Augsburg at Hutton Arena for their home finale on Saturday, February 11 at 1 p.m.
