TUCSON, ARIZ.—The Hamline University baseball team squared off against Carthage in Tucson, Arizona on Wednesday. It took 12 innings to decide the outcome, as the Firebirds came out on top 5-4 behind Mike Ciesla's walk-off RBI single.
Hamline falls to 3-9, while Carthage improves to 4-5.

The Pipers never trailed at any point of the game until Ciesla's game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning, which propelled the Firebirds to a 5-4 victory.
Caden Erickson came through with a monster day for Hamline. His 2-for-5 outing included a two-run home run, and a one-run double. The double trend continued courtesy of Tyler Johnson and Braeden Bourne, which highlighted their two-hit performance.
The Pipers offense out hit the Firebirds 10-9.
Conor Mestemacher, Finn Melchior, Jonah Smallfield, and Luke Schmaedeke combined to strikeout 12 batters, allow nine hits, and walk just two batters. Six of those strikeouts belonged to Smallfield, who allowed four hits and two runs over six innings of work for Hamline.
The Pipers will face Carthage again on Friday, March 17 at 9 a.m. (MT) in Tucson, Arizona.
