UW-Eau Claire's Late-Game Run Sinks Pipers

EAU CLAIRE, WIS.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team traveled to UW-Eau Claire for a Wednesday-night bout. The Pipers cut their deficit to one goal on three occasions throughout the second half, which included a 9-8 score with 9:56 left in the fourth quarter. Reegan Werner responded with a pair of fourth-quarter goals for UW-Eau Claire, which gave them enough security in an 11-8 victory over the Pipers.

Hamline falls to 1-4, while UW-Eau Claire improves to 2-3.

Taryn Leonard gave the Pipers their lone lead of the game at 1-0 with a goal just :34 into the contest. Both teams battled their way to a pair of tie scores at 2-2 and 5-5 before the Blugolds grabbed the 6-5 halftime edge. Hamline stayed within a goal on three more occasions that included a 9-8 deficit with 9:56 on the clock, but couldn't hold off a late 2-0 Blugolds run that locked them an 11-8 victory.

Leonard was all over the stat sheet for Hamline with a team-leading three goals, four shots, four caused turnovers, and five draw controls. Maitland Luksan also contributed three goals for the Pipers, who mustered 11 shots against the Blugolds' 33. However, it was Hamline who converted 13 successful clears while UW-Eau Claire mustered 12.

Alexie Ramanelli came through with four goals, nine shots, and four draw controls for the Blugolds. Reegan Werner wasn't far behind with three goals, six shots, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls.

Justine Case made 13 saves in net for Hamline, while UW-Eau Claire's Alexandria Shea stopped three shots.

The Pipers will host first-year program Saint Benedict for their home MWLC opener at Klas Field on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
