NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University baseball team came through with their first MIAC sweep of the season with 8-7 (7 innings) and 13-3 (7 innings) victories at St. Olaf on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pipers improve to 6-15, 2-2 MIAC, while St. Olaf falls to 6-9, 2-2 MIAC.
Hamline 8, St. Olaf 7
Two lead changes occurred in the contest, engineered by a pair of five-run innings from each team. Hamline set the tone with a 2-0 lead before a five-run Ole third inning gave them a 5-2 lead. A trio of home runs from Braeden Bourne, Mac Enlow, and Gavin Renwick (three-run) engineered a Pipers five-run fifth inning that gave them a 7-5 lead they wouldn't relinquish in an 8-7 victory.
Bourne and Enlow each went 2-for-3 with a home run, while Renwick's three-run blast highlighted his 2-for-4 outing that included four RBI. Enlow registered a pair of RBI, while Bourne scored a pair of runs. Owen Christenson notched a 2-for-4 outing, and Caden Erickson rounded out the Pipers milt-hit performances, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Conor Mestemacher and Dalton Maxwell combined to give up seven hits and seven runs on the mound. Maxwell picked up his second winning decision of the season over the final 4 1/3 innings.
Hamline 13, St. Olaf 3
The Pipers led from start-to-finish, as their six-run first inning gave them enough cushion in a 13-3 victory.
Bourne continued to wreck havoc with a 3-for-5 game that included three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Matt Rusch went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored, while Avery Liebren tallied a 2-for-4 outing.
Parker Leipzig allowed eight hits, three runs, and struck out four over 4 1/3 innings of work in the pitching win before Jonah Smallfield allowed just one hit and notched four strikeouts over the final 2 2/3 frames.
The Pipers got to the Oles bullpen, as they utilized five relief pitchers.
Hamline will host Saint John's (DH) at CHS Field tomorrow, Wednesday, April 12 at 2:30 p.m.
