SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University baseball team posted their second MIAC sweep in as many days with 6-4 and 7-5 victories over Saint John's (Minn.) at CHS Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pipers improve to 8-15, 4-2 MIAC, while the Johnnies fall to 13-10, 4-2 MIAC.
Hamline 6, Saint John's 4
The Pipers never trailed in a contest that resulted in eight hits on each side, and a combined three walks. Mac Enlow continued to make us sound like a broken record as he led the offense with a 2-for-3 outing that included a pair of RBI. Tyler Johnson drove in a team-leading three runs, which included his two-run single in the fifth inning and a first-inning groundout. Max Gerstner scored three runs, drew a pair of walks, and notched a double.
Zach Branson found his rhythm as he allowed eight hits and four runs in the complete-game pitching victory for Hamline.
Kody Dalen allowed eight hits, six runs, and notched five strikeouts over five innings of work for the Johnnies before Kade Bower threw the final frame.
Hamline 7, Saint John's 5
The Johnnies scored all five of their runs throughout the opening three frames, which gave them a 5-4 lead. The Pipers responded with three unanswered runs behind Braeden Bourne's fourth-inning RBI-single followed by RBI-doubles from Caden Erickson and Owen Christenson in the fifth inning, which gave them a 7-5 lead.
Christenson paced Hamline with a 3-for-4 outing that included a double, and three RBI. Erickson and Tyler Johnson each went 2-for-4 with a double. Enlow and Erickson each scored a pair of runs.
The Pipers notched 10 hits against the Johnnies' six.
Finn Melchior allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) over the opening five frames on the mound before Xavier Bembnister surrendered two hits over the next 2 2/3 innings in a winning decision. Jonah Smallfield picked up the four-inning save for the Pipers.Â
Casey Trapp, Jack Haring, and Cade Marsolek collectively allowed 10 hits and notched eight strikeouts for the Johnnies.
Hamline will host UW-Eau Claire at CHS Field tomorrow, Thursday, April 13 at 5 p.m.
