SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team capitalized on their second-consecutive MIAC sweep with 9-5 and 9-1 (6 innings) wins over Augsburg at Meredith Field on Friday afternoon.
The Pipers improve to 11-10-1, 5-3 MIAC while the Auggies fall to 15-11, 1-7 MIAC.
Hamline 9, Augsburg 5
Jenna Rubbelke gave the Pipers a 1-0 first-inning lead when she led off with a walk, stole second base, reached third base on Josephine Cariveau's single, and scored on a wild pitch. The Auggies took their lone lead of the game with a three-run second inning, which made the score 3-1. It proved to be the ignition Hamline needed as their six-run second inning, and two-run third gave them enough cushion in a 9-5 victory.
Cariveau led the way with a 2-for-3 outing that included a pair of RBI and a run scored, while Maddie Johnson went 2-for-2 with a walk. Abbey Herbert contributed a two-run double.
Rubbelke, Gabby Tuhy, and Lecher each scored a pair of runs.
Montana Miller, who was credited with the pitching win, and Dana Rosbacka combined to give up seven hits and five runs (four earned) for Hamline, who finished the game with eight hits as a team.
Hamline 9, Augsburg 1 (six innings)
The Pipers' eight-run first inning was the arsenal they needed in a 9-1 victory.
Sophie Stork was dynamite in the circle for Hamline as she gave up just two hits, one run, and notched four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings before Dana Rosbacka closed the game. The duo combined to give up three hits.
The Pipers offense registered 11 hits, led by Gabby Cook's 3-for-4 day that included a double. Cariveau and Raelyn Costley each went 2-for-4. Costley's stat line included a double and two RBI. Jenna Rubbelke and Maddie Johnson each drove in a pair of runs off a single, while Lydia Lecher scored two runs and drew three walks.
The Pipers will host St. Olaf (DH) tomorrow, Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
