Macalester 10, Hamline 1

An eight-run first inning gave the Scots more than enough cushion in a 10-1 victory.

The Pipers registered seven hits in the contest, led by Max Gerstner's 2-for-4 outing that included a double. Nick Zezulka made his presence known with a 2-for-3 performance.

Hamline scored their lone run in the third inning when Avery Liebren led off with a single, reached third base on Max Gerstner's double, and scored off Tyler Johnson's groundout to narrow things to 8-1.

Zach Branson, Xavier Bembnister, and Carter Hoff all saw pitching action for the Pipers, who collectively allowed 14 hits and notched eight strikeouts. Matt Jukai and Hayes Waddell each hit home runs for the Scots.

Hamline 21, Macalester 6

Hamline's 21 runs was the most in a single game since March 6, 2016, when they defeated Wesleyan (Conn.) 29-14 in Tucson, Arizona. That's not all, the Pipers' 20 hits was their most in a game since March 19, 2019, when they had 20 in a 21-18 loss to Allegheny in Tucson.

The Pipers' nine-run first inning kick started a game that saw them register a run in each inning en route to a 21-6 victory over the Scots.

Finn Melchior played the game of his life with a 3-for-3 outing that included four RBI, three runs scored, and two walks. Avery Liebren and Matt Rusch each registered a 4-for-5 performance that included three runs scored, and a combined seven RBI. Caden Erickson tallied a 3-for-5 game with three runs scored, while Gavin Renwick was nearly flawless with a 2-for-2 day that consisted of a team-leading four runs scored, and two walks. Tyler Johnson, who went 2-for-5, rounded out the multi-hit Pipers.

Dalton Maxwell allowed 10 hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings of pitching work for Hamline before Jonah Smallfield came in for the final 2 1/3 innings. The duo combined to allow 11 hits.

The Pipers will travel to Augsburg (DH) on Saturday, April 22 for a 1 p.m. start.
