Pipers Split With No. 17 Bennies

ST. JOSEPH, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team traveled to No. 17 Saint Benedict (DH) for a Sunday-afternoon bout. The Pipers upset the nationally-ranked Bennies 8-5 in game one, before they dropped a 13-0 (5 Innings) decision in game two.

The split sends Hamline's record to 12-15-1, 6-8 MIAC, while Saint Benedict moves to 19-5, 10-4 MIAC.

Hamline 8, Saint Benedict 5

Savannah Johnson's first-inning grand slam kick-started a game that saw the Pipers lead from start-to-finish in an 8-5 victory.

Raelyn Costley was the lone multi-hit Piper with a 3-for-4 game that included a double, one RBI, and a run scored. Johnson's grand slam highlighted her 1-for-4 outing. Jenna Rubbelke went 1-for-3 with a double, one run scored, and a walk.

The Bennies outhit the Pipers 10-9. Dana Rosbacka went the distance in the circle for Hamline, as she allowed 10 hits and five runs (three earned). Her counterpart Elly Novak scattered 10 hits on eight runs (seven earned), and notched eight strikeouts for Saint Benedict. Tori Harren paced the Bennies offense with a 3-for-4 day that included a triple and two runs scored.

Saint Benedict 13, Hamline 0 (5 Innings)

A seven-run second inning gave the Bennies enough cushion in a 13-0 victory.

Hamline managed just four hits off Saint Benedict starting pitcher Ellie Peterson, who finished the game with four strikeouts over four innings of work before Olivia Wallace threw the final frame.

Raelyn Costley's double made up her 1-for-2 outing. Rubbelke, Abbey Herbert, and Josephine Cariveau also contributed hits for the Pipers.

The Bennies offense notched 14 hits, which included home runs from Jordyn Swoboda, Harren, and Bryn Carlstrom. Dana Rosbacka, Montana Miller, and Megan Ahlness saw pitching action for Hamline.

The Pipers will host No. 8 Bethel (DH) at Meredith Field on Tuesday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
