No. 8 Royals Too Much For Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team hosted No. 8 Bethel (DH) for a Tuesday-afternoon bout at Meredith Field, where they dropped a pair of games by scores of 8-0 (5 Innings) and 8-2.

The Pipers fall to 12-17-1, 6-10 MIAC while the Royals improve to 23-3, 12-0 MIAC.

Bethel 8, Hamline 0 (5 Innings)

Hamline mustered two hits in the contest. One of which occurred against Bethel starting pitcher Kayla Simacek, who allowed just one walk and notched six strikeouts over four innings of work before Ella Roberts threw the final frame.

The Royals offense provided 15 hits, led by 3-for-3 outings from Lexi DeBace and Mandalyn Franks. Mikaela Girard, who went 2-for-3, drove in three runs for Bethel.

Gabby Cook paced Hamline with a 1-for-2 outing that included a double, while Josephine Cariveau also had a hit.

Bethel 8, Hamline 2

Simacek went the distance in the circle for Bethel as she allowed seven hits, two runs and notched 11 strikeouts. Four of those hits occurred in the third inning, which culminated in RBI singles from Jenna Rubbelke and Elena Martinez that cut Hamline's deficit to 3-2. Rubbelke and Maddie Johnson each scored on those plays.

Those were the only runs Hamline mustered as Bethel closed the game with five unanswered runs to secure an 8-2 victory.

Martinez was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Pipers.

Hamline pitcher Montana Miller allowed 14 hits in the complete-game pitching effort. Cortney Hokanson and Sidney Bartels each hit home runs for the Royals. Cortney and Lexi DeBace paced the Bethel offense with three hits apiece.

The Pipers will host Concordia (Minn.) (DH) at Meredith Field on Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m.
