Softball Drops Two One-Run Games at Macalester

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team made the short trek down Snelling Avenue for a Saturday-afternoon bout at Macalester, where they dropped a pair of games by scores of 1-0 and 3-2.

The Pipers fall to 7-10-1, 1-3 MIAC, while the Scots improve to 11-9, 3-1 MIAC.

Macalester 1, Hamline 0

Hamline pitcher Sophie Stork was stellar; allowing just two hits, one run, and two walks. That lone run occurred in the third inning when Sophie Futchko walked, reached second on Elsa Church's sacrifice bunt, and made the score 1-0 when Emily Bergin reached on a fielder's choice before being thrown out at second base.

Five different Pipers registered a hit, highlighted by Gabby Tuhy's double.

Kaitlyn Pistorius allowed just five hits and struck out one batter in the complete-game pitching victory for Maclaester. Stork registered three strikeouts for Hamline.

Macalester 3, Hamline 2

The Scots registered four hits and forced a Pipers error in the first inning, which resulted in a 2-0 lead. Hamline found the scoreboard in the fifth inning, when Jenna Rubbelke singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error, and narrowed the score to 2-1 off Gabby Cook's single.

The Scots pushed their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth before the Pipers threatened them in the seventh. Savannah Johnson led off the seventh with a forced outfield error, which put her at second base. She reached third off Maddie Johnson's sacrifice bunt, and scored off Rubbelke's infield single to make things 3-2.

Rubbelke went 3-for-3 with a triple, one walk, and one RBI. Raelyn Costley registered a 2-for-3 outing for the Pipers.

Dana Rosbacka allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned) over 4 1/3 innings of work before Montana Miller threw a perfect 1 2/3 innings. Kara Jensen, Maddie Molay, and Pistorius combined to allow seven hits and two runs. Jenson recorded the win over five innings, while Pistorius notched the two-out save.

The Pipers will travel to Carleton (DH) on Tuesday, April 11 for a 3:30 p.m. start.
