MOORHEAD, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team traveled to Concordia (Minn.) for a Saturday-night bout. Both teams combined for 111 kills and 64 errors in a match that saw the Cobbers defeat the Pipers 3-1 (25-15, 26-24, 25-27, 25-20).
Hamline falls to 3-9, 0-3 MIAC, while Concordia improves to 11-5, 3-0 MIAC.
Concordia 3, Hamline 1 (25-15, 26-24, 25-27, 25-20)
Hamline took their first lead of the opening set at 10-9, but would combine for seven errors down the stretch. It engineered a 16-5 run for the Cobbers, which gave them enough cushion in a 25-15 victory.
Both teams registered 17 kills in the second frame, where the Cobbers led for most of the time before Elizabeth Lopata's kill put Hamline in the driver's seat at 24-23. A pair of Piper errors highlighted Concordia's 3-0 run to close the frame, which iced them a 26-24 win and 2-0 match lead.
Hamline returned the favor with a 3-0 run to close the third set, which secured them a 27-25 win highlighted by Lopata's five kills in the frame.
The Cobbers led from start-to-finish in a 25-20 decision over the Pipers in the fourth set en route to a 3-1 match victory.
Kaitlyn Kotek notched 40 assists for Hamline. Lopata led the Pipers with 13 kills, followed by 12 from Faith Johnson. Jenna Rubbelke finished with 29 digs.
Mallory Leitner's game-high 17 kills engineered a Cobbers team that hit .216 for the match.
Hamline will return to action on Friday, October 6 at Bethel. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
