Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Royals Sweep Pipers

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team made the short trek to Bethel for a Friday-night match, where they dropped a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 26-24) decision.

The Pipers fall to 3-10, 0-4 MIAC, while the Royals improve to 5-11, 2-3 MIAC.

Bethel 3, Hamline 0 (25-13, 25-20, 26-24)

Bethel accumulated 46 kills and a .306 hitting percentage, both of which are season highs achieved by a Hamline opponent in a three-set match. The 25-13 and 25-20 losses in the opening two frames resulted in a combined 16 kills and a .014 hitting percentage for the Pipers.

The third set proved to be a slug fest as both teams combined for 34 kills and a .307 hitting percentage on just 10 errors. Hamline notched a 16-11 lead before Bethel's offense was nearly flawless from that point forward with 11 kills and a pair of service aces, which kick-started their 7-1 run that gave them an 18-17 advantage. Grace Tesmer's fifth kill of the frame knotted the set at 18-18. It was that point where Hamline wouldn't trail again until the tail end, where Bethel had a 3-0 run that dug them out of a 24-23 deficit and secured them a 26-24 win.

Kaitlyn Kotek had 21 assists, three service, and three kills for Hamline. Lindsay Eckelman came through with a team-leading eight kills, while Jenna Rubbelke and Lauren Wilborn each had 12 digs.

Bethel was led by Abigail Drury's 14 kills, and Devanie Andre's 40 assists.

The Pipers will host defending MIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow, Saturday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
