Saints Get Past Pipers in Back-and-Forth Affair

DULUTH, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team made the two-hour trip northbound I-35 to St. Scholastica on Wednesday night. The Saints picked up their first-ever conference victory over the Pipers by a 58-55 score.

Hamline falls to 6-6, 4-4 MIAC, while St. Scholastica improves to 6-7, 3-5 MIAC.

The tail end of the game had fans at the edge of their seats, as five of the game's 13 lead changes occurred within the final four minutes. Camille Cummings provided Hamline's final blow with 1:44 left in the game, when her three-pointer gave Hamline a 55-54 edge. 

The Pipers had opportunities to put the ball in the basket within the game's final 1:30, where they finished 0-for-4 from the field. The Saints exploited those missed shots with a 4-0 run in that time, which included a pair of made free throws from Liz Frase that widened the margin to 58-55 with 00:06 on the clock. 

Michaela Stamer paced Hamline with 15 points, followed by 10 from Camille Cummings. Josie Wiebusch contributed nine points and two steals, while Sophie Stork notched a game-high four steals. 

St. Scholastica was led by Kloey Lind's game-high 16 points.

The Pipers will host Gustavus Adolphus at Hutton Arena on Saturday, January 13 at 1 p.m.
