SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team hosted No. 6 Gustavus Adolphus at Hutton Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Pipers had the upper hand in scoring 19-13 in the fourth quarter, but the nationally-ranked Gusties prevailed with a 71-51 victory.
Hamline falls to 6-7, 4-5 MIAC, while Gustavus stays unbeaten in conference play with a 13-1, 9-0 MIAC mark.
Gustavus 71, Hamline 51
The game's first points came off Sophie Stork's three-pointer with 8:48 left in the opening frame, which proved to be Hamline's lone lead in a 71-51 loss Gustavus.
The Pipers' bench produced 30 points, while their starting-five came up with 21. Camille Cummings was a spark off the bench with 12 points for Hamline. Michaela Stamer notched a team-leading 14 points that included a 4-of-6 clip from the three-point line, as well as three assists. Kate Trachsel led the way with four assists and two steals. Hamline got a rebound from 13-of-15 players that saw court time.
Rachel Kawiecki paced Gustavus with 13 points, followed by 13 from Emma Kniefel.
Hamline will make the short trip to Macalester on Monday, January 15 for a 5:45 p.m. game.
