Five Second-Period Goals, Along With 40 Saves From Haselbacher Lifts Pipers Over Yellowjackets

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—Senior goaltender Maximillian Haselbacher's career-high 40 saves, along with five second-period goals propelled the Hamline University men's hockey team to a 5-0 road victory over UW-Superior at Wessman Arena on Saturday night.

The Pipers improve to 6-8-1, while the Yellowjackets fall to 10-7-0.

Shots on goal were in favor of UW-Superior by a 40-22 margin, but Haselbacher was there to stop all of them to secure his second shutout win of the 2023-24 season. The Pipers outshot the Yellowjackets 16-10 in a second period that resulted in goals from Brandon McNamara at 3:42, AJ Carls on the power play at 8:14, Carson Simon on the power play at 14:59, Calvin Knight at 15:24, and Jackson Wille at 16:38.

Jordon Halverson picked up two assists for Hamline, while Bailey Sommers, Kyle Mortenson, Ryan Brandt, Dallas Duckson, and Joe Collins each had one.

Jan Scorpik made 11 saves in net for the Yellowjackets over the first 35:24 before Jack Boschert stopped six shots throughout the final 24:36.

Hamline's remaining schedule will consist of MIAC play, which will begin with a road bout at Saint John's on Thursday, January 18 at 7 p.m.
