DULUTH, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team pushed their win streak to eight games with a 3-2 road decision over St. Scholastica on Friday night. This marks the longest win streak in Pipers head coach Whitney Colbert's three seasons at the helm.
The Pipers improve to 15-3, 10-1-0 MIAC. Their win total of 15 matches what they finished with in 2021-22. The Saints fall to 7-10-1, 6-4-1 MIAC.
Hamline 3, St. Scholastica 2
After a first period that saw Hamline pepper St. Scholastica in shots on goal 13-4, the puck began to find the back of the net in a second frame that resulted in a 12-5 shots on goal edge for the Pipers. However it was the Saints who struck first courtesy of Abby Pohlkamp at 4:22 that made it 1-0.Â
This ignited a Hamline squad that peppered St. Scholastica 7-2 in shots for the remainder of the second frame. It resulted in a pair of goals within 1:18 of each other that started with Annabel Mehta's tally at 10:53 that knotted things at 1-1, and ended with Nikki Olund's goal at 12:11 that gave Hamline a 2-1 lead. Lauryn Hill registered St. Scholastica's fifth and final shot of the second period at 18:00, which found the back of the net that tied it 2-2.
It took Haley Eder-Zdechlik just eight seconds into the third period to net her sixth goal of the season ,and give Hamline a 3-2 edge.
Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Mehta and Eder-Zdechlik each had a two-point outing with one goal and an assist. Erika Broten also chipped in an assist.
Hamline outshot St. Scholastica 34-18.
Olivia Rinzel made 16 saves in net for the Pipers, while Mackenzie Cole turned away 31 shots in net for the Saints.
Hamline will eye a weekend sweep of St. Scholastica at TRIA Rink tomorrow, Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m.
