NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team paid a visit to defending MIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Carleton on Wednesday night, where they dropped an 81-69 score.
The Pipers fall to 5-6, 3-3 MIAC, while the Knights improve to 7-4, 4-2 MIAC.
Carleton 81, Hamline 69Â Â Â Â Â
The perimeter was good to Hamline, who converted 12-of-24 (.500) shots from beyond the arch. Mick Wherley wasted no time with back-to-back three-pointers that gave Hamline a 6-0 lead with 18:46 left in the first half. That ended up being the Pipers' largest lead of the game, as Carleton responded with a 15-3 run capped by Matt Banovetz's three-point basket that put his team in the driver's seat for good at 15-6 with 13:33 remaining in the opening 20:00.
The Pipers would cut their deficit to one point on a pair of occasions throughout the first half, before the Knights grew their lead to as large as 13 twice. Those cushion secured Carleton an 91-69 victory over Hamline.
Wherley continu his physical style of play with 15 points on 3-of-8 from the three-point line, along with one steal, one block, two assists, and four rebounds. Daniel McCarrell registered a team-leading 19 points off a perfect 3-of-3 mark from deep as well as a 7-of-10 shooting clip to go with two assists. Austin Holt had a team-leading 11 boards and six assists along with nine points.Â
