The Pipers Stay Hot After a Trip to South Carolina With a 7-1 Victory Over UW-Stevens Point

SAINT PAUL, MINN - The Hamline University women's hockey team welcomed in UW-Stevens Point to Tria Rink for a Saturday non-conference battle. The Pipers started the scoring early and never looked back. Hamline had seven different goal scorers with a total of ten women recording a point this afternoon. Airika Penney held down the fort with 21 saves leading the Pipers to a 7-1 victory over the Pointers. 
 
Hamline improves to 10-3 on the season, while UW-Stevens Point falls to 4-9.

The Pipers got off to a hot start scoring three first period goals vs the Pointers one goal. Rachel Robbins scored her first collegiate goal at 9:34 in the opening frame to make the score 1-0. Shortly after sophomore forward Annika Lindgren put one in the net with an assist from Nikki Olund for the Pipers to go up 2-0. Late in the first Courtney Leising put the Pointers on the board making the score 2-1 in favor of the home team. Closing out the opening frame Nikki Olund scores a goal with an assist from Nancy Benedict for Hamline to go up 4-1 heading into the first intermission. Right away in the second period the Pipers score goals within 8 seconds of each other to extend the lead to 5-1. The first goal was by forward Cailey McLaughlin followed by the senior defender Elizabeth Valley scoring the second. The game was stuck at 5-1 for a while until the junior defender Erika Broten scored at 9:46 in the third period. Then to wrap it up Morgan Wohlers scored an empty net goal late in the final frame to make it a 7-1 final in favor of the Pipers.
