Royals Take Care of Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University football team fell to Bethel 70-0 at Klas Field on Saturday.

The Pipers fall to 2-5, 0-5 MIAC, while the Royals improve to 6-1, 4-1 MIAC.

All of Bethel's scoring plays were touchdowns. Royals quarterback Cooper Drews, who threw six of those touchdowns, finished the contest 24-of-26 passing for 271 yards. Four of Drews' touchdown passes went to Joey Kidder. Micah Niewald accumulated 155 yards on 13 catches, which included scores from 14 and 44 yards out. 

The Royals ground game was also stellar, as they netted 270 yards across seven different players. Aaron Ellingson led the way with 63 yards on 11 carries. 

Bethel accumulated 584 yards of offense, and held Hamline to just 71.

Pipers quarterback Alejandro Villanueva went 14-of-18 for 53 yards. Dawson Schaffer caught nine passes for 35 yards. 

Caleb Lueders led the Hamline defense with seven tackles, followed by six from Troy Spellman. The Royals accumulated 14 tackles-for-loss as a team.

The Pipers will make the short trek to Macalester for the Annual Bucket Game on Saturday, November 2 at 7 p.m.
