Piper Pick Up First MIAC Victory of 2024 Over Royals

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's soccer team came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit with a pair of unanswered tallies over the final 45:00, which included Addyson Barrett's goal in the 90th minute that highlighted a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Bethel at Pat Paterson Field on Saturday.

The Pipers improve to 4-4-3, 1-1-2 MIAC, while the Royals fall to 5-4-2, 1-3-1 MIAC. Hamline's last MIAC win was a 1-0 decision at Gustavus on October 25, 2022.

Hamline 2, Bethel 1

The game's opening 25:00 saw Hamline hold a 5-3 shots advantage, but it was Bethel who set the tone off Malia Bailey's eighth goal of the season in the 24th minute that made the score 1-0.

Hamline's last two shots of the game found the back of the net. Ellie Nhean struck first with a floating shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the goalkeeper's head to the back of the net in the 74th minute that knotted the score 1-1.

The Royals responded with three shots down the stretch run, two of them saved by goalkeeper Isabella Jensen within the game's final 10 minutes. It took nearly all 90 minutes for Hamline to net the game-winning goal, courtesy of Addyson Barrett from Maya Dempsey with :26 remaining, which sealed a 2-1 victory.

Hamline outshot Bethel 12-9, led by four from Nhean.

Isabella Jensen stopped six shots in net for the Pipers, while her counterpart Kate Green made two saves for Bethel.

The Pipers will travel to UW-River Falls on Wednesday, October 9 at 3 p.m.
