Big First Half Enough For Oles in Win Over Pipers

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University football team dropped a 41-6 decision at St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon. 

The Pipers fall to 2-2, 0-2 MIAC, while the Oles stay unbeaten at 4-0, 2-0 MIAC.

All 41 St. Olaf points occurred in the opening half, where they accumulated 130 rushing yards as a team as well as 243 passing yards and three rushing touchdowns from one, one, and four yards out from quarterback Theo Doran. He also registered touchdowns passes of 43 yards to Devin McNeary, and 26 yards to Jobe Monroe.

Hamline avoided the shutout with a five-yard touchdown run from Nicholas Vasko with 12:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, which narrowed the score to 41-6.

Doran finished 15-of-21 passing for 257 yards and two touchdowns, while Gus Gartzke paced the Oles on the ground with 106 rushing yards on 21 carries. Eight individuals caught passes for St. Olaf, who finished the game with 521 yards of offense, 312 through the air and 213 on the ground.

Hamline quarterback Alejandro Villanueva went 14-of-25 for 106 yards. Six of those completions went to Dawson Schaffer for 71 yards. Vasko finished with 58 yards on 15 carries for the Pipers.

Croix Zacharias paced the Hamline defense with 10 tackles. Caleb Lueders recorded an interception for five yards to go with nine tackles.  

The Pipers will stay on the road to face Augsburg in their Annual Hammer Game on Saturday, October 12 at 12 p.m.
