Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pipers Start Strong, But Fall to Bethel in a Sweep

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) decision to Bethel at Hutton Arena on Wednesday evening.

The Pipers fall to 8-11, 1-3 MIAC, while the Royals stay unbeaten in MIAC play with a 14-4, 4-0 record.

Hamline 3, Bethel 0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18)

The highlight was a 6-0 Hamline lead out of the gates in set one, which provoked a Bethel timeout. The timeout paid dividends for a Royals squad who responded with an 11-1 run, and proceeded to out play the Pipers in 25-13, 25-21, and 25-18 victories.

Leading the way for Hamline was Lindsay Eckelman, who finished with eight kills, a .316 attack percentage, one assisted block, and three digs. Eckelman's stat line was the most efficient for a Hamline squad who hit just .009 in the match while Bethel finished with a .236 mark.

Jenna Rubbelke, who finished the match just one dig shy of 2000 for her career, had 16 in the contest. Kayli Starkey and Kaitlyn Kotek each had 11 assists for the Pipers.

Bethel was led by Peyton Howie's 13 kills, and Grace Therrien's 24 digs.

The Pipers will travel to Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, October 12 for a 7 p.m. match.
