SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University women's basketball team secured a 59-54 victory over the Northwestern (Minn.) in their 2024-25 home opener at Hutton Arena on Wednesday night, marking the Pipers' second-straight win. This victory comes nearly five years to the day since their last win against the Eagles, a 62-60 triumph on November 12, 2019.
The Pipers improve to 2-1, while Northwestern falls to 1-1 record.
Hamline 59, Northwestern 54
The first quarter between the Pipers and Eagles ended in a 12-12 tie. Hamline shot 35.7% from the field, making 5-of-14 attempts, including 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Eagles matched Hamline's field goal percentage, also hitting 6-of-14 attempts but went 0-for-5 from 3-point range. Northwestern capitalized on points in the paint with 10, while Hamline had six. Both teams recorded one block each, but the Eagles led in steals with two compared to the Pipers' zero. Hamline committed four turnovers to Northwestern's two, and each team had 11 total rebounds.
The second frame saw Northwestern outscore Hamline 17-14, capitalizing on points from turnovers with seven compared to the Pipers' 0.
