MENOMONIE, WIS.—Ten minutes of shorthanded time doomed the Hamline University men's hockey team in a 5-0 loss at UW-Stout on Saturday night.
The Pipers fall to 0-2, while the Blue Devils stay unbeaten at 3-0.

The Blue Devils had the upper hand in shots by a 2:1 margin at 22-11 over the opening two periods, where Hamline found themselves a man-down for 7:56 of time. A pair of goals were scored by Nicholas Stevens at 1:04 and 18:10 of the first, Hayden Stocks at 1:34 of the second, and Nicolas Pigeon on the power play at 5:53 of the second that gave Stout a 4-0 lead.
Despite a 7-5 shots advantage in the third period, the Pipers couldn't spoil Stout's shutout bid as Kullan Daikawa iced a 5-0 victory for the Blue Devils with a goal at 11:34 of the third period.
Stout out shot Hamline 27-18.
Fifteen infractions were assessed in the contest, nine called on the Pipers.
Hamline goaltender Maximilian Haselbacher made 10 saves over the first 25:43 in net before Trevor Wong stopped 12 shots over the final 34:07. Tyler Masternak made 18 saves in a complete-game shutout for Stout.
The Pipers will open MIAC play on Friday, November 15, when they host Saint Mary's (Minn.) at TRIA Rink. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
