SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University men's hockey team fell to Scholastica 6-1 at TRIA Rink on Saturday.
The Pipers fall to 3-6, 2-4 MIAC, while the Saints improve to 7-4, 3-3 MIAC.
St. Scholastica 6, Hamline 1
The Saints controlled the first period with a strong offensive display, resulting in a 3-0 lead over Hamline. The action began with multiple missed shots by Scholastica, but they eventually broke through at 4:44 with a goal by Nathan Adrian, assisted by Jacob Seitz and Tristan Shewchuk. Shortly after, at 7:33, Tristan Shewchuk scored an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Jacob Seitz then added a third goal at 14:41, assisted by Wyatt Wurst and Kieran Chung, capping off a dominant period for the visitors. The Pipers struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, including a power play that failed to yield a goal.
The second period saw St. Scholastica extend their lead with two goals, starting with Nathan Adrian's even-strength goal at 8:25, assisted by Jacob Seitz and Tristan Shewchuk. Shortly after, Brodie Girod added another goal for the Saints at 9:58, with assists from Kieran Chung and Wyatt Wurst. Despite several attempts, Hamline was unable to capitalize during a power play caused by a penalty for too many players on the ice against the Saints at 4:42. Hamline's
Maximillian Haselbacher made several saves, but St. Scholastica's Eino Rissanen also stopped numerous shots, maintaining their defensive stance throughout the frame.
The third period began with the Pipers winning several faceoffs, but they struggled to convert this advantage into goals with multiple shots missing the target, including attempts by
Nicolas Haviar and
Jackson Wille within the first two minutes. St. Scholastica extended their lead to 6-0 at 7:02 when Tristan Shewchuk scored an even-strength goal with assists from Wyatt Wurst and Nathan Adrian. Hamline responded quickly, scoring their first goal of the game at 7:55 as
Brock Carls found the back of the net, assisted by
Nicolas Haviar. The period also saw penalties for both teams, including a tripping call on Nathan Adrian and a roughing penalty on Adrian that coincided with an embellishment penalty on
Kyle Mortenson.
Brock Carls stood out for Hamline as a key player, having scored the team's only goal.
Thomas Carls demonstrated efficiency in face-offs with a percentage of 69%, winning 16 out of 23 attempts.
Despite the lopsided score, St. Scholastica narrowly out shot Hamline 30-27.
Tristan Shewchuk led the Saints with four points, including two goals, one of which was a game-winner. Nathan Adrian was also pivotal, scoring two goals and adding an assist, while maintaining a plus-minus rating of four. Jacob Seitz contributed with one goal and two assists, boasting a perfect face-off percentage. Wyatt Wurst led in assists with three, coupled with a strong plus-minus of five. Finally, Brodie Girod was effective in face-offs, winning 60 percent, and scored one goal.
Rissanen made 26 saves in net for the Saints, while Maximilian Haselbacher and
Trevor Wong combined for 26 stops for the Pipers.
Hamline will return to action on Friday, December 13 at Aurora. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
