DE PERE, WIS.—The Hamline University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of their 2023-24 season with wins over St. Norbert by a 5-4 decision, and an 8-1 throbbing of Ripon at the Green Bay Tennis Center on Friday.
"Solid 8-1 win against Ripon," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "Natalie and Christine continue their stellar play at 1 doubles with an 8-0 win!"
The Pipers improve to 4-3.
Hamline 5, St. Norbert 4
The doubles flight resulted in an 8-2 win for Christine Muller/Natalie Randall at No. 1, and an 8-3 decision for Lynn Nguyen/Elanna Kohner at No. 3.
Ashley Pitzen registered a tiebreak 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 win at No. 2 singles. The No. 4 spot saw Nguyen prevail by a 6-2, 6-2 score. Hamline took care of business at the bottom of the lineup thanks to Kohler's 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 5, and Vanessa Pham's 6-0, 6-3 thrashing at No. 6.
Two singles matches resulted in tiebreak losses for the Pipers. It included a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 loss for Chloe Reyes at the No. 1 spot, and a 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 decision for Muller at No. 3 singles.
Hamline 8, Ripon 1
Hamline swept doubles courtesy of Muller/Randall by an 8-0 score at No. 1, Reyes/Kohner 8-3 at No. 2, and Pitzen/Elizabeth Dimian 8-1 at No. 3.
The bottom five singles matches resulted in wins for Hamline. Pitzen prevailed at the No. 2 spot 8-4, as did Muller at No. 3 by an 8-4 decision. Kohner (No. 4) and Dimian (No. 6) each picked up 8-0 victories, sandwiched between an 8-2 thrashing for Pham at No. 5 singles.
The Pipers will travel to Saint Benedict on Friday, February 24.
