Pipers Sweep Knights in Kansas

TOPEKA, KAN.—The Hamline University baseball team swept Martin Luther (DH) by scores of 15-0 and 20-6 in Topeka, Kansas on Friday afternoon.

The Pipers move to 3-2 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-2.

Hamline 15, Martin Luther 0 (Game One)

Max Gerstner, who drew two walks, registered four of Hamline's 11 stolen bases in the contest.

The Pipers doubled the Knights in hits by a 14-7 margin, led by Tyler Johnson's 3-for-4 outing that included two doubles and one RBI. Jacob Barmore went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and one run scored while Caden Erickson's 2-for-5 game included a double and two runs scored. Cade McGraw, who scored a team-leading three runs, went 2-for-4 with a double. 

Ten different Hamline players notched an RBI, while nine individuals recorded at least hit, and scored a run.

Conor Mestemacher notched five strikeouts, allowed six hits, and walked one batter over six innings on the pitching rubber for the Pipers. Hans Christensen V allowed one hit and struck out two in a three-inning save.

Hamline 20, Martin Luther 6 (Game Two)

The Pipers continued their dominance on the bases with eight steals, led by two apiece from Caden Erickson, Tyler Johnson, and Braeden Bourne.

Erickson registered a 5-for-6 outing that included three doubles and four runs scored while Tyler Johnson's 3-for-4 game consisted of three doubles, a team-leading four RBI, and three runs scored.  

Jack Rheineck, Gerstner, and Cade McGraw each went 2-for-5 at the dish for a Hamline team that accumulated 20 hits. 

Finn Melchior, Luke Schmaedeke, and Josh Cary each tossed three innings on the mound for Hamline. The trio combined to strikeout 12 batters and allow eight hits.

The Pipers will face Simpson (DH) in Indianola, Iowa on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
