Pipers Come Back From 10-0 Deficit to Defeat Knights 16-15

TOPEKA, KAN.—The Hamline University baseball team came back from a 10-0 first-inning deficit to secure a 16-15 victory over Martin Luther in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday. 

The Pipers improve to 4-2, while the Knights fall to 0-3.

The top of the first inning resulted in a 10-0 Martin Luther lead. Hamline held the Knights scoreless over the next four innings, while their offense produced at least one run in every frame except the third. This included a seven-run Hamline fifth inning that gave them a 13-10 lead they wouldn't surrender in a 16-15 victory.

Martin Luther outhit Hamline 18-14. 

Tyler Johnson continued to hit for extra bases, as his 5-for-6 outing included three doubles and five runs scored. Mac Enlow's three-run home run in the fifth inning highlighted his 2-for-3 game that also consisted of two walks and five RBI. Braeden Bourne rounded out the Hamline multi-hit performances with a 3-for-6 day that accumulated in three RBI and four stolen bases.

Hamline drew 11 walks in the game, led by Cade McGraw's team-leading three along with two stolen bases. Max Gerstner contributed two steals and drew two walks.

The top-four in Martin Luther's lineup notched 13 of their 18 hits. Lilientha paced the Knights with a 5-for-6 outing that included two doubles, four RBI, and three runs.

Parker Leipzig, Dalton Maxwell, Xavier Bembnister, and Ethan Smith all pitched for Hamline. Maxwell allowed five hits, two runs, and notched six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings, which secured him the win. Smith picked up a 1/3 inning save.

The Pipers will travel to Simpson (DH) on Saturday, March 2 for a 1 p.m. start.
