SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The opportunities were there for the Hamline University women's basketball team as they tied for a season-high 66 attempts, but didn't capitalize in a 67-51 loss to St. Olaf at Hutton Arena on Wednesday night.
The Pipers fall to 10-11, 8-9 MIAC, while St. Olaf improves to 4-16, 3-13 MIAC.
St. Olaf 67, Hamline 51
St. Olaf got off to a 6-0 run to start the game, before Hamline responded with an 8-1 run that gave them an 8-7 lead through 10:00 of play. The Pipers led for the entire second quarter, and took their largest cushion of the game at 29-20 with 00:31 left in the frame before Hamline went into halftime with a 29-22 advantage.
Hamline shot 6-of-15 (.400) in the second quarter. That momentum didn't carry into the second half, where the Pipers shot 7-of-34 (.206). The Oles shot 14-of-28 (.500) throughout the final two quarters, which secured them a 67-51 win.
Camille Cummings led the way with 12 points off the bench, while Michaela Stamer had 11 points, one steal, and the team's only two assists of the game.
Sophie Stork and Faith Johnson each had six rebounds for the Pipers.
Chloee Smith led St. Olaf with 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting.
Hamline committed just three turnovers.
The Pipers will host Macalester for Senior Day on Saturday, February 10 at 1 p.m.
